Tool and die

Each plastic part is produced in a mold made of tool steel.

In 2017, tools and machinery accounted for approximately 15% of global steel consumption.

Approximately 30% of tool steel is used for plastic mold manufacturing.

The steel used for tools and forming is a group of steel that contains a series of other metal additives, making them harder, more durable, more resistant to wear and warping, and able to withstand extreme temperatures. According to different manufacturing applications, tool steels are divided into three series - cold worked steel, hot working steel and plastic mould steel. Various types of stretching, stamping, punching, and forming molds, gauges, and chucks rely on cold worked steel because of its low price and durability. For example, your car door is likely to be stamped with cold worked steel. Applications such as die-casting, forging, extrusion and hot stamping are all made of hot working tool steel, while plastic mold steel shapes almost every plastic part in our surroundings, from bottles, TV shells to telephones.

The use of molds and the mold market is very important because the production of all these tools usually requires strong wear resistance, which is a basic standard for mold durability. Tool steel is the preferred material for manufacturing these molds due to the inherent characteristics of steel and tool steel, as well as their ability to maintain wear resistance. It can ensure the durability of the mold to perform as expected (without fracture or wear), and can perform hundreds of thousands of molding operations within its service life compared to other metal or steel substitutes. Due to its high hardness, heat resistance, wear resistance, and corrosion resistance, millions of parts can be formed multiple times without the need for material depreciation.

Jiujiang has been serving the mold and mold industry for most of our history.
